EPD Certification for Our High-Speed Doors: Environmental Transparency Throughout the Product Life Cycle

BMP EPD life cycle

Every high-speed door we design has a story beyond installation, from raw materials processed at our facility to years of intensive use and, eventually, a second life as a recovered resource.

Our EPD certification (Environmental Product Declaration), covering DynamicRoll®, Pack®, Megapack®, B-Drive® and Spiral®, lets us describe that full life cycle with certified data, not a self-declared claim. Declaration EPD-IES-0031853 was issued by EPD International AB under The International EPD® System, per ISO 14025 and EN 15804:2012+A2:2019, and independently verified by IMQ S.p.A. (ACCREDIA-accredited).

The Life Cycle of BMP High-Speed Doors: From Raw Materials to End of Life

Our EPD certification’s key strength is assessing the entire product life cycle per the modules defined by EN 15804.

Manufacturing Stage: Modules A1–A3
We manufacture our high-speed doors at our facility in Villanova d’Asti, Italy. Production includes laser cutting, bending, winding-shaft processing, mechanical assembly, PVC curtain cutting/welding, and final quality control. At this stage, we calculate the impact of: raw material sourcing (low-alloy steel, electrical components, galvanised iron, polyethylene, polyester); processing operations; and packaging (wood, LDPE film, cardboard), chosen partly for recyclability.

Installation Stage: Module A5
We also quantify installation impact at the customer’s premises, including energy used for electromechanical systems, calculated globally to reflect our network across 30+ countries.

Use Stage
Our high-speed opening systems and motors are designed to reduce heat transfer between areas with different operating conditions, supporting the energy efficiency of the buildings where our doors are installed.

End of Life and Recovery: Modules C1–C4 and Module D
Our analysis extends to dismantling, transport, waste processing and disposal. Module D shows a net environmental benefit, confirming the recovery potential of our doors’ metallic and polymeric materials.

No Substances of Very High Concern
Our products contain no SVHCs per ECHA criteria, an added safety guarantee for the environments where they’re installed.

WHAT IS AN EPD AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a document that uses the scientific Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to quantify the environmental impacts of a product throughout its entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal or recovery.

For our customers, including general contractors, designers, facility managers and companies operating in the logistics, food and beverage and manufacturing sectors, EPD certification provides a practical tool to:

  • objectively assess the environmental footprint of installed high-speed doors;
  • support sustainable building certifications such as LEED, BREEAM and GBC protocols;
  • transparently compare technically equivalent industrial door solutions;
  • meet ESG reporting requirements and environmental criteria in public and private tenders.

Frequently Asked Questions About EPD Certification

What is our EPD certification?

Our EPD is an independently verified Environmental Product Declaration that quantifies the environmental impacts of our industrial high-speed doors throughout their entire life cycle, from manufacturing to end of life.

Which high-speed door models are covered by the EPD certification?

The certification covers our entire range of high-speed doors: DynamicRoll®, Pack®, Megapack®, B-Drive® and Spiral®, including their related variants for cold storage, food processing and other specialist applications, such as Frigo, Food and Air Door solutions.

Why is EPD certification important when purchasing industrial doors?

EPD certification provides objective and comparable data on a product’s environmental impact. This information can support ESG reporting, environmental requirements in tenders and sustainable building certification schemes such as LEED and BREEAM.

How long is our EPD certification valid?

Environmental Product Declaration EPD-IES-0031853 is valid until 2 July 2031.
